I volunteered in the refugee camps on Lesbos in Greece. It touched me so deeply that I had to create an artwork out of these emotions and named it after a refugee from Syria: Aamer.

The city awakens slowly.

Quiet mornings, and the first stirrings of life, the warm scent of fresh bread drifting through the alleys.

Soft rose-colored light, and the patina along the old walls.

With every small gate I pass, a new view unfolds, the light guiding me further in.

Then comes the beautiful square, where the palm trees cast their long morning shadows.

I love these gentle mornings… when the whole day still lies open before me.

Soft coral earth beneath

her feet,

The sun slowly sets over the land.

The horizon whispers,

She will rise again.

Shadow and future intertwined,

Threads of all that she is woven together.

Here and tomorrow,

Even when the night feels long,

The sun has promised

It will always return.

Her eyes sparkle,

Carrying the light.

The light of connection,

With all that surrounds her,

Through every layer of herself,

She carries the sun.

I love how the silence listens, how the stars around me are lit at night and how the dewdrops glisten. The light where peace shines, where all dreams are born.

Dreaming of a live in peace… Listening to the whispers within my sight. Floating freely through the air around me. Seeking a place to settle in our hearts. The heart is like a bird, free to fly, spreading her wings soaring in the sky, flying away and feeling freedom. I love those peaceful moments of the heart when mind and spirit finally run free following the path less taken. Like a bird bathing in the soft clouds shimmering in the sun, showing the beauty to be free and to live life.

In natural peace all love is born. Let’s spread the love, let hope glow bright.

This abstract is created in memory of the beautiful serene Kyoto. “Kasshoku” means brown and I love Kyoto with its traditional brown wooden houses and the temple surrounded by cherry blossom trees.
