I painted this painting on an early morning in Marrakesh at a little square, so her name is “Belle Matinée”. 

Early morning in the city. Marrakesh is waking up, sun is softly rising, the leaves of the palm trees are softly stirring. Soaking up the sounds and smells. The vegetable vendors, the donkey cards, bicycles and trucks that pass by. Soft pink morning light, so softly gleams. Beautiful morning.

The structure in this painting is so strong, you can almost feel the brush strokes. I enjoy playing with colours, combining small highlights in a nude palette.

I love to paint female faces with sparkling eyes. I always paint the eyes first, because I see so much in eyes. They are the window to our soul, telling us much about a person just by gazing into them.

"When life gives you lemons…”

I love this proverbial phrase. Lemons suggest sourness or difficulty in life while making lemonade out of it is turning them into something positive and desirable.

Shades of nudes and pink, all cut outs from vintage paper, which I collect during my travels and keep like treasures. Creating landscapes from little nothings.

Female faces are always a big inspiration to me. I enjoy especially drawing the eyes and this is what I start with. It is the most difficult part of the painting but also the most exciting to find out her expression, her character while drawing.

In Japan the color red is regarded as an auspicious color and associated with happiness, strength and joy. This painting always makes me happy, I love the bright color and the pattern of her kimono.

I love to paint landscapes and flowers, and especially wildflowers, they are growing anywhere and everywhere. Blooming in all the places people thought they never would…

I am a river, clear as crystal every morning, my path drawn by the wind. I am a river going down over wide stones. The moon shimmers in jade green water. Follow the river.

In Asia flowers have a deeper meaning, and the Frangipani flower is considered as an essence from nature that brings enlightenment and kindness. There are so many frangipani trees in our neighborhood here in Bandung.

Every morning, very early, when the air is still fresh, we make a walk, and I love to collect the fallen flowers.

There are some things, that just smell so good: coffee, jasmin, orange blossoms, and frangipani flowers.

This painting is a lovely memory of my love for Java and frangipani flowers.
